Equipment

  • Large saucepan or slow cooker for simmering the cider
  • Wooden spoon for stirring
  • Fine mesh strainer to remove spices and solids
  • Cheesecloth (optional) for easier spice removal
  • Measuring spoons and cups for precise ingredient quantities

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 3-inch cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 1 medium orange sliced
  • Optional: honey brandy, rum

Instructions
 

  • Toast spices in saucepan over medium heat for 2 minutes: releases aromatic oils.
  • Add apple cider and bring to a simmer.
  • Add sliced orange and optional ingredients.
  • Reduce heat to low: simmer for 20 to 45 minutes.
  • Strain mixture: remove spices and citrus slices.
  • Serve hot in mugs: optionally garnish with a cinnamon stick or star anise.
