Hot Mulled Cider

Large saucepan or slow cooker for simmering the cider

Measuring spoons and cups for precise ingredient quantities
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1 3-inch cinnamon sticks
- 1/4 tablespoon whole cloves
- 1 medium orange sliced
- Optional: honey brandy, rum
Toast spices in saucepan over medium heat for 2 minutes: releases aromatic oils.
Add apple cider and bring to a simmer.
Add sliced orange and optional ingredients.
Reduce heat to low: simmer for 20 to 45 minutes.
Strain mixture: remove spices and citrus slices.
Serve hot in mugs: optionally garnish with a cinnamon stick or star anise.
