Bosch is a multinational engineering and electronics company that specializes in making power tools, automatic components, and kitchen appliances. If you’re looking for a brand-new dishwasher for your home or apartment, odds are you’ve seen one that sports the infamous red Bosch logo. So, when it comes to Bosch dishwashers, what size options are available?
The average size of a Bosch dishwasher will be 34 inches tall, which is just a fraction shorter than the industry average (34-1/2 inches), and about 17 to 24 inches wide. However, the actual size of a Bosch dishwasher, in terms of overall size and cleaning capacity, will vary from model to model.
If you take a look at the Bosch website for dishwashers, you’ll find that the company categorizes its dishwashers as front controls, top controls, custom panels, and 18” & ADA. So, what do these categories mean in terms of overall size? I’ll explain in the following sections, as well as provide a brief guide for choosing the right Bosch dishwasher for your home.
Bosch Dishwasher Sizes
As I previously stated, the average height of a Bosch dishwasher is about 34 inches tall. However, the height of a dishwasher is only one minor consideration when determining which dishwasher model to take home with you today.
Below, I’ll provide a comprehensive table that details the exact measurements of Bosch’s lineup of dishwashers.
Bosch Dishwasher Category | Dishwasher Model | Dimensions (H × W × D in inches) |
Front Controls | 800 Series SHEM78Z55N | 33-7/8 × 23-9/16 × 23-3/4 |
Front Controls | 300 Series SHEM63W55N | 33-7/8 × 23-9/16 × 23-3/4 |
Front Controls | 100 Series SHEM3AY55N | 33-7/8 × 23-9/16 × 22-9/16 |
Front Controls | Ascenta SHE3AR75UC | 33-7/8 × 23-9/16 × 22-9/16 |
Front Controls | 800 Series SPE68B55UC | 32-1/16 × 17-5/8 × 22-9/16 |
Front Controls | 300 Series SHEM63W56N | 33-7/8 × 23-9/16 × 23-3/4 |
Top Controls | 800 Series SHPM78Z55N | 33-7/8 × 23-9/16 × 23-3/4 |
Top Controls | 800 Series SPX68B55UC | 32-1/16 × 17-5/8 × 22-9/16 |
Top Controls | Ascenta SHX3AR72UC | 33-7/8 × 23-9/16 × 22-9/16 |
Custom Panel | Benchmark SHV89PW73N | 34-1/16 × 23-9/16 × 21-5/8 |
Custom Panel | 300 Series SHV863WD3N | 33-7/8 × 23-9/16 × 23-1/6 |
18” & ADA | 800 Series SGX78B55UC | 32-1/16 × 23-9/16 × 22-9/16 |
18” & ADA | 300 Series SGE53B55UC | 32-1/16 × 23-9/16 × 22-9/16 |
As you can see from the table above, Bosch’s dishwashers have a pretty consistent height and depth. The main size variance between the models is that they either fall into a 23-9/16-inch or a 17-5/8-inch width category.
Are Bosch Dishwashers Shorter or Larger than Standard Dishwashers?
Whirlpool, another home appliance brand, has stated on its blog that the standard built-in dishwasher will measure roughly 34-1/2 × 24 × 24 inches (H × W × D).
When comparing the Bosch models listed in the table above to the industry standard of dishwasher sizes, you’ll find that Bosch models are slightly shorter by 2-7/16 of an inch at most. And even though Bosch markets its widest dishwashers as 24-inch models, they are actually 7/16 of an inch away from the true 24 inches.
While Bosch dishwashers are technically shorter and smaller than the industry average, their differences are minute and negligible. As such, you should allocate the same 24 × 24-inch footprint and 34-1/2-inch air space in your home to a Bosch dishwasher as you would any other dishwasher from another brand.
Adjusting Bosch Dishwasher Height
One major problem most homeowners have when purchasing a dishwasher—or any freestanding home appliance, for that matter—is balancing the unit just right. While kitchen floors are designed to be as flat as possible, it’s not uncommon for some homes to have tiny dips in various spots on the floor, including kitchens.
Luckily, Bosch, like any other brand, helps customers compensate for any dips or bumps on the ground by installing adjustable feet on their dishwashers. All you have to do is adjust the height settings of the feet before permanently installing it on the side or in between kitchen counters.
If you’ve already installed the Bosch dishwasher and found problems with how parallel it sits with the floor, simply disconnect all cables and hoses, remove the dishwasher, and readjust the height until it sits perfectly straight.
How Do Bosch Dishwashers Compare to Other Brands?
When comparing Bosch to brands like Whirlpool, Miele, and General Electronics, you won’t find much variance in terms of size. What truly sets a dishwasher brand apart from the rest is the features its appliances come with.
For instance, Bosch is known for making quiet, flexible, versatile, and high-capacity dishwashers at a reasonable price. In terms of cleaning performance, Bosch ranks near the top in terms of thoroughness and the ability to eliminate tough stains.
Miele, on the other hand, is a brand that is well-known for producing top-quality appliances with a price tag to match. So, while Miele has set unmatched standards in terms of performance and energy efficiency, the cost of a Miele dishwasher can be pretty steep.
Whirlpool is a brand that sits somewhere in the middle in terms of performance and durability. However, what sets it apart from many of its competitors is top-notch after-sales customer service. With customer service centers located practically everywhere in the country, customers may feel happy to know that the manufacturer is always just a quick phone call away.
Choosing the Right Bosch Dishwasher
The dishwasher models listed in the table above only scratch the surface in terms of how many dishwashers Bosch has available. Again, you can check out the Bosch website for dishwashers to see the entire list of products.
Here’s a quick guide to help you choose from a list of over two-dozen Bosch dishwashers.
Size—how much floor space and air space does the unit take up?
Cleaning Capacity—how many plates, bowls, cooking utensils, spoons, knives, and forks can you place inside the dishwasher?
Additional Racks—does the Bosch dishwasher come with a third rack that increases cleaning capacity by 20%?
Built-in vs. Portable vs. Countertop—do you want a dishwasher that is permanently installed in your home, a portable one that you can move around, or a countertop dishwasher that uses less water but has a smaller cleaning capacity?
